Why Drains Block on These Blocks

Old pipe under old trees

Edgeworth's housing spread through the sixties, seventies and eighties as mining land was carved up for family housing, and much of the drainage laid in those years is clay and earthenware pipe. Clay cracks as it ages, earthenware opens at the joints, and the backyard trees planted when those blocks were new have had decades to find every gap.

Roots only buy time

Cutting a root back clears the line today and blocks again next season. The fix that lasts is a camera check after clearing, which shows whether the pipe wants a reline, a patch or an excavation, and we quote each option before touching anything.

Flat ground holds water

The Cockle Creek floodplain sits under the suburb, so a serious downpour pushes water back up through yard drains and the stormwater system on the flat. An afternoon storm can leave a wet laundry floor for a week where the yard drains are choked.

How We Price a Job

That means no gap between the figure we name and the figure you pay, and no bill-shock phone call after the work is done.

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

What moves the figure on most jobs:

  • Access A pipe under a concrete slab or behind a wall takes longer to reach than one in an open yard.
  • Pipe material Clay, earthenware, galvanised and PVC all behave differently, and older materials cost more to work with.
  • Parts and fittings The system you choose, from a basic storage tank to a heat pump, sets the biggest single number on a hot water job.
  • After-hours Work outside normal hours carries the after-hours charge.

When we're not the right call: wiring faults behind a hot water unit belong to an electrician, and a cracked retaining wall or slab beside a drain is work for a builder.

The 1990s Estate and Townhouse Pockets

Not every job here is old pipe

The old Young Wallsend colliery site was bulldozed and turned into housing in the 1990s, and townhouses have gone in around Northville Drive. Those homes run PVC, but townhouses often share a drain line, so a blockage there can reach the neighbours as well as you.

Hot water is the quiet deadline

The brick veneer homes of the post-war years are running tanks that have done more winters than they were built for, and the likeliest time for one to fail is a cold morning with a full house queued for the shower. If your unit is stuttering, our hot water page walks through the repair-or-replace call before you spend anything.

The floodplain keeps score

Storm season along the creek corridor tests every stormwater line on the flat streets, and a stormwater check before the wet months costs less than a flooded garage after them.

Edgeworth Plumbing Questions

What does it cost for you to come out?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). The plumber checks the fault and prices it on the spot, and nothing begins until you give the word. You decide with the price in front of you.

Can you clear tree roots from an older sewer line?

Yes. Roots cause most of the repeat blockages on the established streets here, where mature backyard trees grow over old clay and earthenware lines. We clear the line first, then put a camera through it to show the state of the pipe wall, and quote a patch, a reline or an excavation as the footage dictates.

Which hot water systems do you install?

Electric storage, instant electric, gas storage, continuous-flow gas, heat pumps and solar. We size the unit to the household before quoting. When the new unit needs ordering in, a temporary tank keeps the showers hot until the new system goes in.

Do you work in the adjoining suburbs too?

Yes. We cover Cameron Park, Elermore Vale, Glendale, Argenton and West Wallsend alongside Edgeworth, plus Teralba. Ring with your street name and a quick description of the fault, and we will confirm the address before a plumber heads out.

Is a gas leak something you handle at night?

Yes, we are available 24/7. If you can smell gas, turn it off at the meter if that is safe, open windows and stay clear of switches. Call the emergency line for the gas network first, then ring us to trace and repair the leak.

What does the warranty cover?

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. Should a repair we made fail within those twelve months, call us back and we return to put it right, with paperwork that ties to the original job.
